I was headed west to meet up with Michelle. She had been helping her sister in moving cross country from Washington DC to Monterey CA. I, on the other hand had spent a month building a 16x24 foot shed in our backyard and I was ready for a road trip of my own. This wasn't my first visit to Big National Park but was the first time on my own. In a moment of firsts it was my first stop on the trip. I arrived late that night skidding in to Cottonwood camp. I only sent one full day visiting Santa Elena Canyon, driving the old Mavericks Dirt Road and hiked Mule Ears Trail to a spring out in the middle of the dessert. This stop was phenomenal and spurred my photographic eye as I continued my trek across the Southwest region of the US.
